Lichfield Diamonds U14 5 Melbourne 1
Diamonds used there last league fixture before their County Cup Final to practise some set piece moves – a move which paid dividends.

Laura Eggington volleyed in an Alison Livermore corner in the opening minutes but Melbourne levelled with a good shot into the top corner.

Normal service soon resumed however with two goals from Shannon Bernes Jones and one each from Jess Adams and Livermore.

As the season reaches its climax Diamonds now need to knuckle down and put into practise what they are being asked to do on the pitch and show a little more discipline at training if they are to go and achieve their potential as a team both this season and in future seasons.

With teams looking to close the gap on Diamonds at the top of the league this against the fourth placed team was a potential banana skin for the City girls, but once Lucy Whieldon put them in front any nerves faded and they went on to play some easy on the eye football.

Striker Caitlin Harper back on form with a hat-trick, Jose Balla got two and captain Georgia Bradley was also on target. Whieldon then scored her second of the game to round things off and take her season’s tally into double figures.

In a difficult first half against the wind Amy Bardell defended stoutly to keep any Hilton attacks at bay.

A dubious penalty for handball, which K Hitchcock put away gave Diamonds a 1-0 lead at half time.

The second half saw the girls take control with some excellent passing football, good throw-ins and well taken corners.

Another good performance and goal from Rosie Mason-Green was sandwiched between two more from Hitchcock sealing a 4-0 win.
