One of Beacon Park’s mature trees is set to be cut down after suffering damage in high winds.

During recent storms a large branch fell off the tree. Inspectors from Lichfield District Council examined the damage and found a crack down the trunk and other signs of stress.

As a result of the tree’s poor condition, it will now be chopped down and replaced with a new one.

Beth Osman, Heritage Parks Manager, said:

“Because of its health, even if we drastically cut back the branches, we’re not confident the tree will recover. Where ever we can, we always try to keep trees, but because this lime tree could put park visitors at risk, we have little choice but to remove it and plant another one in its place. We’ve cordoned off the path, and tree surgeons will cut the lime tree down this week.”
