Former members of the Staffordshire Regiment are being urged to return to Lichfield for a special ceremony in May.
On May 15, the Colours of the 1st Battalion, The Staffordshire Regiment will be laid up in Lichfield Cathedral – for the first time since 1985 – and the Staffordshire Regimental Association is keen for former Staffords to be there.
There will be a parade through Lichfield city centre before the ceremony by the 3rd Battalion, The Mercian Regiment (Staffords), who are the direct successors of the Staffords.
The parade will take place at 11am before the Cathedral service at 12noon.This will be at 11 am and the service in the Cathedral will be at 12 noon.
Entry to the Cathedral will be by ticket only. Any former Staffords who want to attend can contact Helen Rayson on 01543 434390 or by emailing helen.rayson303@mod.uk.
The Colours were presented to the Staffords in Colchester on 21 May 1983.
Since then the Battalion have served in four Northern Ireland tours, fought in the Gulf War, served in Kosovo and completed two difficult tours in Iraq.
The Battalion received New Colours on 28 April 2006, when HRH Prince Andrew presented them in Whittington Barracks.
