A fairly even first half saw Laura Eggington’s well-struck volley well saved early on as both teams struggled with a strong wind and a below standard pitch.

Diamonds were creating the better chances though, using the width provided by Jess Adams and Eggington, but couldn’t find a breakthrough.

A mix up between keeper and defenders nearly allowed Town in, but keeper Sophie White recovered well to gather in the loose ball.

In defence Dani Jones, Holly Jackson, Maisie Bardell and Georgia Bradley were kept on their toes as Town looked to hit them on the counter.

Late in the first half Diamonds got a deserved breakthrough as quick feet and a well placed left foot shot from Alison Livermore beat the keeper to give them a half time lead.

Diamonds drove forward in the second half with Charlotte Batey and Lucy Whieldon dominating midfield. The lead was extended through a good strike from Livermore.

Shannon Bernes -Jones then brought a good diving save from the keeper before heading a good chance over with the goal at her mercy.

A free kick for handball on the edge of the box was curled into the top corner by Livermore for her hat-trick, who then made it 4-0 on the hour with a delightful chip over the goalie.

Another piledriver from the angle by Eggington was turned over by the keeper before Josie Balla came inside to rifle the ball into the top corner to complete a solid team performance from Diamonds and leave captain Danni Jones the task of lifting the Cup.

* Diamonds are currently building their squads for next season and have girls teams from U10 through to U15 and Ladies, anyone interested can contact the club on 01543 254069.
