Lichfield firefighters have been nominated for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue’s staff awards.

Watch manager Steve Whitehouse from Red Watch has been nominated for the Exceptional Contribution to Team Working category, while the city’s Blue Watch are up for the Fundraiser of the Year gong.

The nomination for Steve’s award said:

“Steve has been the Watch Manager for approximately 18 months. In that time he has developed a successful team on Red Watch Lichfield. Steve encouraged the Watch to enter the extrication challenge and they eventually represented the service at the National Finals.”

Blue Watch’s nomination came in the category where the award will go to “the group or individual who has tirelessly and selfishly raised funds for charities and who would otherwise go unrecognised”.

The nomination said:

“Blue Watch at Lichfield have proactively sought opportunities to raise funds for numerous causes. The Watch Manager, supported by the Watch, took part in the fire and ice challenge and organised fund-raising events to enable the team to achieve a fantastic amount for the firefighters’ charity.

“They also drove the Movember fund-raising event for male health charities. This involved all members of Lichfield station attempting to grow moustaches for the month of November. They also arranged a sponsored cycle and swim from London to Paris in the shopping centre in Lichfield for Movember.”

The Lichfield firefighters will find out if they are winners at Keele Hall on April 28.
