The fire-damaged house in Whittington

An investigation has found that the fire which severely damaged a house in Whittington was started by an electrical fault on a TV.

Two crews from Lichfield, Tamworth and the ariel ladder platform from Burton-on-Trent attended the incident on Chester Road at 12.30am this morning.

The fire caused extensive fire damage to the ground floor and roof space and smoke damage to the whole of the property.

Fire Investigation Officer, Phil Smith said:

“Following the fire investigation that took place this morning we believe the incident was caused accidentally due to an electrical fault with the television.

“Upon the discovery of a fire we would urge all members of the public to ensure that doors inside of theirs homes are closed on exit as this helps to contain the fire. In this particular incident the doors inside of the property were all left open which allowed the smoke to travel throughout the entire property which caused extensive smoke logging.”
