Staffordshire Police have joined the nationwide hunt for a missing man.

Victor Bell, 39 has been missing from his home in York since March 2008, but police had initially narrowed down their search to eastern Scotland after a number of sightings which have since turned out to be unsubstantiated, leading to a renewed nationwide appeal.

Victor went missing after telling family members he was going on a camping trip. Although he is a regular camper, his family alerted police on 11 July when they became concerned for his safety and welfare as he has not contacted them since.

He is described as white, around 5ft 8in, of slim build with light brown hair, a pale complexion, brown eyes and wears glasses. He wears straight legged jeans, a black shower-proof coat, a green fishing hat, tan walking boots and carries a black rucksack. He will be travelling on foot or public transport.

Victor has previously camped in Scotland and Bridlington but could be anywhere in the UK. Officers are appealing for anyone who may recognise him or may have seen a lone man camping who answers his description, to get in touch.

Anyone with any information, please contact York police on 0845 60 60 247.
