More than 1,000 women have already signed up for the biggest single fundraising event in St Giles Hospice’s 25-year history, but there’s still time for even more to join them.

TV and radio presenter Joanne Malin is donning fairy wings and a tiara to meet the fairytale theme and take on the nine-mile course of this year’s Solstice Walk in Lichfield.

Helen Relihan, Head of Fundraising for St Giles Hospice, said:

“This summer’s Solstice Walk has already attracted record numbers, and with capacity for 2,000 entries in total this year, we’re urging even more teams and individuals to sign up before the June 5 deadline. It’s an ideal opportunity for friends, families and colleagues to get together and do something memorable to support St Giles’ care for local people with cancer and other serious illnesses.

“Many of our entrants are throwing themselves into the spirit of the occasion and we’re really looking forward to seeing lots of fairy wings, wands, glitter and sparkles brightening up the night in Lichfield!”

The Solstice Walk takes place on June 20 and the entry fee is £14. Any women wishing to join the Walk can call 01543 432538, email or visit

Last year’s Solstice Walk attracted 1,000 entries and raised more than £100,000. Since the first Solstice Walk took place in 2007, the annual event has raised £150,000 for St Giles, with all proceeds spent on the charity’s caring services.
