Three teenagers have been arrested after tricking people into handing over their mobile phones in Lichfield’s Beacon Park.

The arrests followed incidents at the weekend in which victims were also threatened.

The three, two aged 14 and the other 16, and all from the Birmingham area, were arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Detective Inspector Jed White said the positive police action on Saturday evening (June 20), involved officers stepping up patrols in the park, speaking to potential witnesses and checking the city’s CCTV system. He added:

“Beacon Park is a fantastic asset to the city and is enjoyed by very many people from throughout the area. I hope this positive police action will send out a very strong message that anti-social behaviour and criminal activity in or around the park will not be tolerated by police or the local community.”

A 14-year old youth is due to appear at Tamworth Magistrates’ Court today charged with conspiracy to rob. A 14-year old youth and a 16-year old youth have also been charged with conspiracy to rob and given bail with conditions that they do not travel to Lichfield.

Maybe this is why the helicopter was flying over Lichfield on Saturday evening for about half an hour?
