Gary Clives with his award

A Lichfield worker has picked up an award for outstanding customer service after braving the heavy February snow in the early hours to ensure that his colleagues would have a safe arrival at work.

Gary Clives is the janitor at Midlands Co-op’s Business Support Centre in Lichfield and although he works afternoons, when he saw the heavy snowfall earlier this year his thoughts turned to his colleagues arriving to work to a snow-covered car park. Gary was on the case straight away and was on site by 7.30am to help get the car park cleared.

In recognition of his efforts, Gary has now been presented with a Service Excellence award by the company.

Nominations for the award are invited from fellow Midlands Co-op colleagues and customers. Those making a nomination are asked to say why they believe the nominee is worthy of an award. Each quarter around 850 nominations are made.

Ann Breen , HR Development Manager, said:

“We are always overwhelmed by the response to our awards and the number of nominations we receive continues to grow year on year. Delivering excellent customer service is part of who we are and shows the importance both colleagues and customers put on recognising those that take pride in their job and go the extra mile. The service awards are about acknowledging and rewarding our colleagues? fantastic effort and achievement and also about providing a formal way to recognise and say thank you for a job well-done.”

Each quarterly Service Award winner receives £100 Co-op gift vouchers, a Service Award certificate and a choice of champagne or flowers.
