A red-hot afternoon in Cheshire saw Dean Perrow in red-hot form as his double secured Chasetown a 2-1 victory in their first pre-season friendly at Congleton Town.
The home side opened the scoring on 17 minutes when the Bears attack split the Scholars defence only for keeper Ryan Price to haul down their attacker and concede a penalty, which Danny Briggs converted.
Perrow equalised on 25 minutes with a superb individual effort, turning past his marker in the box and firing across the home keeper to level the scores.
The conditions were such that the referee ordered a two-minute break for drinks after 27 minutes, and this clearly rejuvenated Perrow as his second goal came just a minute after play resumed. The “Goal Machine” picked up the ball from Will Ricketts in the box following some good work by Gary Birch, and Perrow produced another fine finish.
There were plenty of positive outcomes evident from the new-look squad, with Danny Bragoli making an outstanding debut and Birch also going close to the target late on, and things certainly look good as the squad prepare to face Cardiff City on Friday.
The run-up to Friday’s big match continues on Tuesday as the side visit Meir KA, kicking off at 7.30pm.
Chasetown: Price (Fryer 77), Ricketts (Miller 63), Milligan (M Branch 58), Slater, Thomas (Clancy 73), Teesdale (C), Steane (Batchelor 53), A Smith (Harris 58), Birch, Perrow (Woodhouse 70), Bragoli.
