Work to find out what’s underneath Chasewater Country Park is set to begin.

The investigatory work will see boreholes and test trenches put in place ahead of major improvement works to Chasewater Dam.

Councillor Val Richards, Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, explained:

“Visitors to Chasewater Country Park will notice that workmen are on site from Monday 13 July for about three weeks. They are carrying out investigatory work, which includes drilling a number of boreholes and a series of trenches, to find out the composition of the ground on which the dam is built.”

These investigations are in preparation for the £2.5 million improvement works that will be starting in early 2010.

 Cllr Richards added:

“The country park is still open to visitors, and there is plenty going on at Chasewater this summer, including mini-golf, boating on the lake, and rides on Chasewater Railway.”
