CHASETOWN had the upper hand throughout in their friendly at Glossop North End, but ultimately had to settle for a 2-2 draw. A strong Scholars side started Saturday’s game brightly with Ross Miller’s long range shot saved by Stuart Williams, but in the 14th minute keeper Ryan Price was adjudged to have brought down Mark Balfe and Hillmen skipper Dave Young scored from the penalty spot. Glossop proved a tough and physical side and Andy Trucca and Ash Smallwood both picked up bookings for challenges, but the atmosphere cooled after the latter’s yellow card after the referee called both captains together.

The Scholars continued in lively fashion, however, with Dean Perrow and Miller in impressive form, but it was not until past the hour mark that they managed to find an equaliser.  Two minutes after Ben Steane had side-footed wide, Danny Smith ran across the edge of the 18-yard box and passing up the opportunity to pass to Miller, fired an unstoppable shot over Williams and into the net. On 86 minutes Harry Harris unleashed a screaming shot which Williams could only palm into the corner of the net, and the Scholars were ahead.  Just when they looked set for victory, however, Glossop substitute Tom Bailey crossed to Nick Allen who headed the equaliser past the diving Price in the final minute. Chasetown could certainly draw several positives from this match, and if it had been a boxing match they would have won easily on points. The Scholars are next in action when they visit Coalville Town on Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off) before supporters get their first chance to see the new-look side at home on Thursday as they take on Ilkeston Town (7.45pm kick-off). Glossop: Williams (Birch 74), Smallwood, Whelans (Pearson 65), Young (c), Yates, Trucca (T Bailey 74), R Bailey, Morris, Balfe (Parker 55), Goddard (Cooper 52), Allen. Chasetown: Price, Miller (J Branch 77), M Branch (Middleton 68), Slater, Teesdale (c), Milligan, Steane (Egan 75), Bragoli, D Smith (Turner 80), Perrow, Holland (Harris 72).
