A Lichfield school has been granted permission to run a new diploma course in 2010.

Students at King Edward VI School will be able to study the Environmental and Land Based Diploma from September next year.

The diploma will count as seven GCSEs and will see students learning about including plant and animal care, waste management, crops, forestry and working in land-based organisations.

The latest edition of the school’s newsletter confirmed that the course will see the school liaising closely with Rodbaston College.

The school’s Head of Science, Jenny Varley, said:

“We hope that the diploma will not only increase our students’ environmental awareness but also develop key business and problem-solving skills needed to meet the challenges and increasing demand for environmental and sustainable methods.”
