Chasetown shrugged off two injuries to claim an exciting 3-2 victory at Gloucester City in their latest pre-season friendly. Goalkeeper Ryan Price marshalled the young defence in front of him well, while Craig Milligan also provided inspiration. Mark Branch had the Scholars’ first effort on goal, but it was the Tigers who struck first in the fifth minute when Lee Smith cut in from the right and curled a left-footed shot inside the post following some impressive play from midfielder Luke Ballinger. Chasetown goalkeeper Ryan Price upped his form after his side fell behind, while Richard Batchelor suffered a shoulder injury and Richard Teesdale also limped off with a leg injury.  His replacement was 16-year old debutant Jack Hulin, who covered himself in glory five minutes later when he stabbed home a loose ball following a corner for the equaliser.
Danny Smith
Danny Smith fired the visitors ahead in the 42nd minute when he beat two challengers to rifle the ball into the roof of the net, and Chasetown held their lead until half time. On 53 minutes Jack Pitcher equalised for Gloucester when he headed over Price, but the Scholars restored their lead seven minutes from the end when Craig Marshall headed home Ben Steane’s corner. Price continued to keep charge at the back and palmed a shot from Jack Harris over the bar on 70 minutes before leaping to his left to hang onto a header from Mike Symons. The Tigers thought they had equalised in the last minute but Ballinger’s effort following a cross from the right was ruled offside, and Price was on hand again to send a 20-yard free kick around the post in stoppage time. Chasetown’s next pre-season friendly will see them visit Tipton Town on Wednesday evening for a 7.30pm kick-off.
