In their first pre-season outing Diamonds looked surprisingly sharp with the pace of Karen Clough, Niccy Hazel and Katie Rose a constant threat to the Pheonix defence. Hazel soon put Diamonds in front, cutting in from the right to slide the ball past the keeper. With rolling subs it was difficult to keep the momentum but Hazel bagged a first half hat-trick with Clough netting twice and a debut goal for Shannon Edwards from Clough’s cut-back. Pheonix scored late in the half to give themselves a boost for the second period in which they played much better. But two further goals from Clough made it 8 – 1 with Phoenix pulling a goal back directly from a corner. A good run out for Diamonds with the new signings all putting in good performances.

  1. Wholly disrespectful & desperate to remit a match report regarding a training game (not a friendly) against a new team & backroom staff (effectively 15 strangers). For Diamonds to boast & celebrate such a “fixture” in the local media may have contravened FA codes of conduct on several levels, it is certainly not upholding the spirit of the game.
