Ask anyone where to go for good live music in Lichfield and the chances are you’ll be met with a blank face – or at best the odd mention of a one off gig at the Paradise Lounge or the odd cover band at The Kings Head.
In fact, since the closure of The LA Rock Café there hasn’t really been anywhere for the discerning music lover to go.
Well now, according to the new management of The George IV on Bore Street, that is all about to change. With the promise of weekly band nights featuring local and touring bands alike, they certainly seem to be heading in the right direction.
Rob Taylor, promoter of the new venue, told The Lichfield Blog:
“What we’re hoping to do is bring back a sense of community to the lichfield music scene, we want The George IV to be the first place people think of when they’re looking for live music in Lichfield. We also want somewhere that local bands can come and play on a regular basis, and get the chance to support some of the bigger touring acts we will be bringing in.”
As well as the weekly band nights, The George IV plans to hold monthly open mic nights for all seasoned and budding musicians alike to play in a ‘friendly, relaxed atmosphere’, with the promise of slots on the main stage for the most impressive.
One thing that The Fuse Festival showed us is that Lichfield is definitely not lacking in local talent, and now it seems, they have somewhere to show it off.
The newly refurbished George IV opens on August 15, with a night packed with live music from varied genres to kick start the new venue.
