Football fans in Burntwood are being invited to play the beautiful game as well as watch it. Leisure Leagues run football leagues at Burntwood Leisure Centre on Sunday and Monday. Spokesperson Alex Zielski said the start of the professional season was the perfect time for fans to start playing again. He explained: “The start of the football season is a time for great anticipation and excitement, but then for most of us, our teams disappoint – and speaking as a long-suffering Coventry City supporter, I know this only too well! That doesn’t stop us loving football, though, and we are encouraging teams from Burntwood to join the leagues and show your heroes how it’s done.” A special offer to coincide with the start of the football season sees teams offered free entry to the Burntwood leagues – a saving of £25. Once they are in the league everyone can look forward to a United Kingdom Independent Football Federation (UKIFF) qualified referee and all equipment provided. Alex added: “All teams need to do when they join our leagues is turn up, pay the match fee and enjoy half an hour of fun but competitive football. There are crystal trophies and champagne for the winners, with the champions and runners-up being given the chance to play in one of Leisure Leagues two National Tournaments per year.” The finals day – held in Cannock – will give the best five & six-a-side teams in the UK the chance to meet and show off their skills for the honour of wrestling the crown away from Widnes side Random Allstars, who won the competition in May. As an added bonus, teams who join the Leisure Leagues competition in Burntwood will also be supporting charity as the company invests all its profits into national charities and environmentally sustainable projects – a stance which has recently received praise from David Cameron and Gordon Brown.
