A personal portrait of the Queen Mother will be on the agenda at the Lichfield Garrick in September.

Hugo Vickers will be highlighting the much-loved Royal’s private side at the Garrick Studio on September 12.

Hugo is an acknowledged expert on the House of Windsor and in 2005, his book, Elizabeth: The Queen Mother, was published.

Harold Nicolson called her “the most amazing Queen since Cleopatra”, while Cecil Beaton described her as “a marshmallow made on a welding machine”.

The Queen Mother’s image is well known throughout the world – the pastels, the pearls, the feathery hats, the smile. But what was she really like inside? Hugo spent 17 years researching her life, having observed her for 40 years. He saw her in public and in private and talked to her close friends and staff.

In a performance sparkling with images, music to capture key moments and footage of the Queen Mother in action, this is a portrait of one of the most enigmatic characters of recent times.

Tickets to The Queen Mother; A Personal View are £12 (£10 concessions) and available by calling 01543 412121 or visiting the Lichfield Garrick website.
