Hotline to deal with firework complaints in Burntwood and Lichfield

fireworksA new hotline has been set up to help people in Burntwood and Lichfield report nuisance fireworks.

The number has been set up to answer firework queries 24 hours a day, seven days a week and means people across Staffordshire have the chance to call just one number to raise concerns about problems caused by fireworks misuse and seek clarification on laws introduced to curb anti social behaviour associated with fireworks.

People who call the hotline will be given information on fireworks including where and when they can be sold and how they should be used. Information about firework problems will be passed onto the relevant authority whether it be trading standards, fire or police.

Staffordshire County Councillor Ben Adams, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture said:

“Operation Good Guy is the result of a large effort countywide between a number of agencies. I would urge anyone who has any queries or concerns about fireworks to make use of the Fireworks Hotline.  The number is 08454 02 03 04.

“The work of Operation Good Guy is a real step forward in the fight against anti social behaviour and nuisance caused by fireworks. People caught selling or storing fireworks illegally will be investigated and face prosecution. We want people to enjoy their fireworks but not at other peoples’ expense.”

Ian Sloss, Head of Risk Reduction at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said:

“We will be delivering our Operation Good Guy initiative to high school pupils across the county. This is a hard hitting presentation about firework misuse which includes a graphic demonstration highlighting the dangers of fireworks. The initiative has proved to be very successful in recent years.

“We’re not complacent though – we want everyone to enjoy Bonfire Night but we urge people to stay safe by following the firework code and by attending displays that are well organised.”

I do believe the police will take action against antisocial fireworks behavior.I also train pigs to fly and teach people how to plait fog!
Perhaps the police will tell us how many teenagers were put in court last year for mishandling fireworks ?
