Despite the scoreline, Leicestershire side Marlborough Rovers gave Diamonds a tough test in the Lichfield team’s second pre-season outing.

Diamonds started brightly with shots from Jo Hearne, Karen Clough and Lindsey Hopton forcing the keeper into several good saves, but eventually the pressure told when Katy Rose headed in Clough’s corner.

The score quickly doubled when Clough controlled a good left wing cross from Meghan Rose and drilled the ball home.

Late in the half Hopton should have scored after a good pass from Hearn found her unmarked in the box but again the keeper saved.

Rovers kept playing good approach football in the second half but found it tough getting through the Diamonds defence of Mags Bailey, Tammy Bennet, Emma Dagley and Keri Lunn.

Katy Rose headed in the third, again from Clough’s well placed corner and then completed her hat-trick with a shot across the keeper into the far corner.

The bar rescued the visitors when a long range effort from Hopton had the keeper beaten before Jo Sheerin in Diamonds goal showed her worth with a diving save late in the game.

With the start of the season getting closer Diamonds still  have spaces in their squads, from U10 to U15 girls and the ladies team. For more information, contact the club on 01543 254069.
