Lichfield Diamonds enter new era with introduction of boys team

Lichfield Diamonds are set to begin a new era as a boys team enters the fold.

As the largest female football club in Staffordshire, the formation of a new boys under-12 team to accompany the eight female sides is a landmark achievement.

Lichfield Diamonds chairman Mic Sharrod said:

“Normally male football clubs add ladies and girls teams, predominately to open up grant funding, so its very unusual for a female club to add male teams – in fact we may be the first.

“As an FA Charter Standard club we are proud of our reputation as a well-run and respected club and have everything in place such as a Child Welfare Officer and CRB checks. This has helped Diamonds to pull in players from an ever widening area including Tamworth, Burton, Uttoxeter, Burntwood and Cannock. However we will not forget our roots and Diamonds will continue to invest a lot of time and money into the local schools with the links we have established.

“We have appointed a team manager, coach and a team secretary to the boys and they have built up a good squad throughout the summer so everything is in place for the boys to have an enjoyable and hopefully successful season.”

Diamonds are always on the look out for new sponsors to come on board and any businesses interested can contact the club secretary on 01543 254069.

New players can also contact the above number or visit the club web site www.lichfielddiamonds.org.uk for more information.
