Virgin Trains have been urged to reintroduce their Sunday service between Lichfield Trent Valley and London.

Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant has appealed to the company as part of his battle to improve services and facilities at the city’s Trent Valley station.

Mr Fabricant told The Lichfield Blog:

“I have written to Chris Gibb, Chief Operating Officer of Virgin Trains, following a meeting of the Lichfield Commuters’ Club in the House of Commons last Wednesday, formally requesting the reintroduction of a Sunday service to London.

“I said to him that when we were all informed that the Virgin service would be replaced by a London Midland Service every two hours on Sundays, we were completely unaware that the direct service journey time would take almost three hours.  Moreover, the irregularity of the London Midland service does not guarantee a convenient change at Rugby for those who want a faster service.

“I asked that regardless of whether London Midland are able to improve their timetable reliability, might it be possible to provide at least one Virgin service on a Sunday between 6pm and 8pm from Lichfield to London?  I know that there are many commuters who need a fast and reliable Sunday evening service to Euston to begin their week.  This includes both business people and students.”
