Chasetown FC manager Charlie Blakemore has admitted that Craig Marshall’s decision to leave the club was unexpected.

Marshall revealed to The Lichfield Blog that he had decided to make the switch to Sutton Coldfield Town in order to secure more first team football.

But the striker’s decision has baffled his former manager at the Scholars Ground.

Blakemore told The Lichfield Blog:

“I was definitely surprised by Craig’s decision because at the start of the season he said he wanted to stay and fight for his place. But something’s clearly turned his head in the last few weeks and he’s changed his mind. I am shocked, but he’s a good lad and I wish him well.”

Supporters on Chasetown FC’s official messageboard have also voiced their confusion over Marshall’s decision to leave the club, given that striking rival Dean Perrow is a long-term absentee and Danny Smith is also playing with an injury.
