Lichfield City FC’s manager has revealed that “a few home truths” were the key to his side’s 4-0 win against Racing Club Warwick Reserves.

Dean Gilbert was delighted with the response he got from his players after demanding more from them following a 1-1 draw against Continental Star Reserves the previous weekend.

And performances like that of man-of-the-match Ross Adams – who was signalled out for praise by his boss – showed that his players rose to the challenge before them.

Gilbert explained:

“The players were asked to dig deep and prove there good enough for the side and they did. It was a superb performance against the side that beat us 4-0 in last season’s Jack Mould Trophy.

“The players were brought in early and had to sit and listen to a few home truths about the last couple of games. Influential players were left out in a gamble that could have back-fired, but it proves the strength we have in depth and now these players are going to have to wait and work hard in training to get their places back in the squad, let alone the starting 11.

“I rang the changes and brought in players and they performed and made the difference.”

Lichfield City’s next game sees them take on Droitwich Spa on September 19.
