One of the country’s top media commentators has speculated that the Lichfield Post could be reborn. The title disappeared from the newspaper landscape when owners Trinity Mirror closed the operation as part of a series of cost-cutting measures across the Midlands. But with the news from HoldTheFrontPage that the Burton Trader – one of the newspapers axed in the Trinity Mirror cull – is to reopen under new local management, The Guardian’s Roy Greenslade has suggested other titles could go the same way. Writing in his online column, he said:
“The old Trader was one of nine free weeklies closed by Trinity. So there must be a chance of seeing a new Lichfield Post, a revamped Tamworth Times and a born-again Walsall Observer.”
