Dog owners prepare for Pooch in the Park

Canine capers will get tongues and tails wagging when St Giles Hospice holds its popular Pooch in the Park event.

Paws are poised for the walk at Kingsbury Water Park from 11am on September 27.

The event will help raise funds for the hospice, which is a registered charity offering high-quality medical and nursing care for people with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as providing support for their families and carers.

Patients receive care at the hospice’s facilities in Sutton Coldfield and Whittington, near Lichfield.

As well as a great walk for pets and their owners, at each event there’s a Top Dog prize for the pet with the most sponsorship, and special awards for the one with a hairstyle most like its owner and for the waggiest tail.

St Giles Hospice staff will also be giving out free doggy bags to all participants.

Sarah Shelton, Community Fundraiser at St Giles said:

“Pooch in the Park is a great family event and we welcome everyone – from spring-heeled pups through to long-in-the-tooth hounds. We’re expecting a great turn-out to help raise vital funds for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses.”

Animals play an important role in life at St Giles Hospice. Visiting dogs are regularly used to cheer up patients, particularly those who have had to be away from their pets during their illness.

The 2.5-mile Kingsbury Water Park walk is pushchair-friendly and suitable for people and dogs of all abilities. Entry to the event is £10 per dog, while dog owners and families go free.

Kingsbury Water Park is situated off Bodymoor Heath Lane , in Kingsbury, between Sutton Coldfield and Tamworth.
