Whittington-born actor Rob Pass is set to tread the boards at the Lichfield Garrick as one of the stars of The Entertainer.

The former barman will make his first ever professional appearance as Frank Rice in the show, which runs until the end of October.

And Rob admitted he was pleased that his debut would come in his home town. He explained:

“It’s an absolute pleasure to be making my professional debut in Lichfield. I’m highly honoured and very grateful to the Lichfield Garrick for giving me the opportunity.

“I’m working with some brilliant and creative people. It’s great, I’ve always wanted to be an actor and now I’m living the dream. I’m still pinching myself.”

Rob trained at the Method Centre in London and The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York. His previous theatre credits include Henry V (Lichfield Garrick), Cold Comfort Farm (Lichfield Garrick), As You Like It (West End Theatre, New York).

And Lichfield theatre-goers will get to see a lot more of the talented actor as he will also be appearing in the forthcoming Lichfield Garrick pantomime, Aladdin.

The Entertainer is the story of Archie Rice, a struggling comedian and a music hall performer in an age when music halls had all but disappeared. Driven by dreams of stardom and desperation to equal his father’s success, Archie finds himself a man out of his time, a selfish, deceitful has been, headlining a tacky revue in a rundown seaside town. Family tensions reach boiling point as both his wife and his dying father find themselves victims of his sad decline. Throughout it all, Archie jigs and jabbers before his ever diminishing audience and does what it takes to keep the show going.

Tom Roberts, Garrick Rep Producer, said:

“Once again we have a fantastic team in place for what promises to be a wonderful production. Coming from the team that produced the sensational Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, this is quality theatre on your doorstep.”

The Entertainer is at the Lichfield Garrick from October 8 to 31, with a variety of afternoon and early evening performances. Tickets cost £15 (£10 students). To book your seats call the Lichfield Garrick Box Office on 01543 412121, or visit
