Children create community art on Mile Oak football stand

Children have been making their mark on a football stand near Lichfield.

The Make Your Mark community art workshop took place at Mile Oak Recreation Ground on October 3 and saw around 35 children help graffiti artists Dave Brown and Millsy create a huge piece of community art.

Mile Oak Rovers FC kindly offered their football stand up as a giant canvas. The stand is now a riot of colour with Mile Oak Rovers emblazoned on the front, surrounded by images of football players and their keen supporters.

Local artist Dave Brown said:

“This has been a great day. We taught local children, as well as members of Mazeley Youth Club and Mile Oak Rovers Football Club, how to spray paint, so they could all make their mark on the football stand. Everyone got stuck in and worked really hard to create this massive piece of graffiti.”

Councillor Helen Fisher, Cabinet Member for Community at Lichfield District Council, said:

“This was a great opportunity for local clubs and groups to come together to create a wonderful piece of community art. The football stand looks amazing and really enlivens its surroundings. I am sure it will help to cheer the players on, and will let them know that their community supports them. Well done to the artists and their creative helpers.”

The project was funded by the Lichfield District Council, the Community and Learning Partnership and HomeZone Living.
