A Lichfield pub has closed after a police raid that resulted in a man being arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

The Bald Buck, at Greenhill, closed its doors voluntarily after police executed a search warrant last night (October 14).

A 29-year old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and a second man, aged 24, was given a police warning after being found in possession of a small amount of cannabis.

The 29-year old was arrested at the premises and taken to Tamworth police station.

Officers are now reviewing city centre CCTV footage as part of their investigation into an alleged assault near the pub on the evening of October 8.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lichfield police on 0300 123 44 55 or, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Trent Valley police licensing officer, Sgt Mark Czechowski, said he hoped the operation sent out a strong message that police would take positive action to ensure licensed premises operated properly.
