Police say OAP handbag thefts in Lichfield could be linked

Police believe a thief who snatched an 82-year-old woman’s handbag as she sat in a car at Lichfield could be behind a similar theft.

Officers think he was also responsible for stealing a bag from a 90-year old woman as she walked along an alleyway between Stowe Street and Tanyards a few weeks earlier.

The earlier theft happened at around 6pm on September 24 – 13 days before the later attack in Eastern Avenue.

In both incidents, the victim was approached by a man on a bike who grabbed their handbags and cycled away.

The 90-year old victim’s bag was later found and police are appealing to the woman who found it to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt Judy Evans at Lichfield police on 0300 123 44 55 or, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
