Lichfield RUFC skipper Dave Bassett has hailed the club’s strength in depth after their 15-5 win at Old Silhillians RUFC.

The Myrtle Greens fielded a changed side for their Midlands Intermediate Cup Second Round contest, but still maintained their perfect start to the season.

The city side gave first team debuts to Josh Massey, Gareth Brear, Callum Turner and Matt Smith. They also welcomed back Dan Taylor and Greg Massey after injury. The experienced Neil Antcliffe captained the side in the absence of Bassett.

And despite his own non-appearance, the introduction of the new faces delighted the Lichfield captain. He said:

“All the debutants gave promising performances and despite a number of changes the team continued to show great skill and enthusiasm showing the depth of talent in the squad which Lichfield will need as the season progresses.

“With the seconds winning 57-22 against local rivals Tamworth this was another encouraging weekend for the club.”
