A man has been arrested in connection with a suspected arson attack on a Lichfield house.
Firefighters were called to a house on Lower Sandford Street at 2.15am today (November 10) after petrol was poured over the front door and set alight.
Four people living at the house were able to raise the alarm after being woken by a smoke alarm.
Watch Manager at Lichfield Fire Station, Mark Bellewski, said:
“Petrol has been poured over the front door of the property and set alight. This has spread underneath the door, triggering the smoke alarm downstairs, which then activated the one upstairs.
“This woke the mother, father and their two daughters who ran downstairs and saw the smoke. They immediately called the emergency services. This was an arson attack.”
The four people were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene by paramedics but did not required hospital treatment.
