Chasetown FC’s Richard Batchelor has confirmed he has played his last game for the club.

The midfielder missed the midweek win at Rushall Olympic and has confirmed he will be quitting the Scholars Ground to join Leamington.

But Batchelor insists his move has not been as a result of a fall-out after losing his place in the starting XI at Chasetown. He told The Lichfield Blog:

“I’m moving to try a new challenge. I haven’t fallen out with anyone, it’s just a good opportunity to test myself at a higher level.

“I know the new manager at Leamington so that was also a factor in my decision.”

Ironically, the appointment of Paul Holleran as Leamington’s new boss has also led to Ben Steane’s decision to stick with Chasetown.

Former Brakes manager Jason Cadden had wanted the midfielder to make the move across the Midlands, but his departure ended any prospect of the switch.

But while Scholars boss Charlie Blakemore will now have Steane available, he has lost Batchelor as a result of the changes at Leamington.

And the departing Chasetown man admits he enjoyed his time at the Scholars Ground – especially the support he received from the fans.

He added:

“I’ve had some good times at the club. Playing at Cardiff City’s ground was a brilliant memory.

“The fans have always been great to me and I would like to thank them for their support during my time at Chasetown.”
