Chasetown Ladies 6 Stafford Town LFC Reserves 2

Chasetown produced a strong team performance as the began to return to the sort of football they are capable of playing.

The opening period was very even with both Chasetown and Stafford having good chances to take the lead.

On 15 minutes there was a slip in the Chasetown defence and a Stafford player had a golden chance to score, but Becky Troth stood firm in the Scholars goal and the chance was wasted.

Five minutes later Chasetown took the lead following a well-worked move. Sarah Thompson collected the ball inside her own half and hit a long cross field ball to Jade Arber, who controlled the ball well and played in Charlotte Bull on the overlap. Bull went past the full back and rifled the ball into the Stafford net for 1-0 lead.

Stafford gained encouragement from a good 10 minute spell when they had the ball in the Chasetown net, only to see the offside flag deny them.

There were last ditch tackles by Nicci Barter and Katy Bridge that kept the score at 1-0.

Chasetown eased their nerves when Sinead Treanor hit a shot from just inside the box that rocketed into the net after a good one-two with Bull.

Chelsee Spencer madee way for Jodie Edwards at half-time as the Scholars looked to introduce fresh legs.

It only took five minutes of the second period for Chasetown to increase their lead. A corner from  Arber was defended at the near post, but the ball came back for her to cross again. Treanor controlled the ball on her chest and struck the volley past the Stafford keeper.

It should have been cruise control time but Stafford kept fighting back.

Jodie Kinsey came on for Lyndsey Turner who had had a good game in central midfield on the hour mark.

Within a few minutes Stafford had got the goal they deserved. A free kick was given away on the edge of the penalty area and the ball was curled into the top corner for 3-1.

Treanor then scored two goals in quick succession to restore control. The first cam after a good through ball from Jodie Edwards. The second saw her collect a loose ball and take it round the keeper.

Stafford goalkeeper Heather Byatt pulled off a string of good saves during the match to keep the score down. The best was a full length dive to her right to keep out a long range shot from Sarah Thompson.

Chasetown’s sixth followed a corner that led to a scramble in the Stafford goalmouth. Arber got the decisive touch as she tucked the ball home as reward for an outstanding game.

Stafford got another goal near the end to make the final score 6-2.
