Lichfield City FC 1 Leamington Hibernian FC 1

It was a case of two points dropped for Lichfield City as they drew 1-1 with Leamington Hibernian at Brownsfield Park.

Manager Dean Gilbert kept faith with the youngsters who had performed so admirably when City defeated Knowle 3-1 seven days ago.

The hosts took the lead in the 12th minute when Jon Rob Dutton pounced on James Lawson’s rebounded effort to coolly slot home from close range.

City continued to have the better of the opening half with Aaron Cleaver pulling the strings in midfield. However, they could not convert their dominance into clear-cut opportunities and took a 1-0 lead into the break.

The visitors improved after the break and finally broke Lichfield’s resistance in the 75th minute following a moment of hesitancy from keeper Dan Edwards.

Ironically, that goal sparked Lichfield back into life but, despite creating a number of chances late on, they eventually had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Boss Gilbert said:

“It shows how far we have come and how high expectations are that we are disappointed with a draw against a decent Leamington side.

“Last season we would have taken a 1-1 draw with a more experienced side but you could see by the lads faces back in the dressing room how disappointed they were.

“We have more or less the same players as last season but they are improving with every game and that is showing in their attitudes.”
