Burntwood residents are being reminded to join in the first lantern procession through the town.

The parade starts off at 6.30pm on Saturday (December 12) at Burntwood Youth Centre, in Cherry Close, and after the procession Burntwood Brigade Band will lead a sing along carol concert in the grounds of Burntwood Leisure Centre.

Lots of people have been hard at work and created lanterns of all shapes and sizes at a series of lantern building workshops.

Ryan Waldron, Burntwood Community Development Worker, said:

“Excitement is mounting for Burntwood’s first lantern parade. The workshops have gone really well, and there are lots of interesting lanterns that will look fantastic when they are lit up this Saturday. So, even if you’re not parading a lantern, remember to come down and follow the parade and take part in the carol concert.”

Deputy County Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Ian Parry, added:

“This will be a fantastic celebration of the Burntwood community and I do hope lots of people will take part, or simply cheer those on who pass by with their lanterns.”

Anyone wanting to join the procession is asked to arrive by 6pm.Children under 12 years of age need to be accompanied by a responsible person aged 16 or over at the parade.
