Chasetown Ladies 6 Five Towns 2

Chasetown Ladies bounced back from an early setback to beat Five Towns in the Staffordshire County League.

The Scholars went behind in the first minute following a mistake in the box.

But the lead didn’t last as Chasetown were level just 60 seconds later. A Becky Troth clearance was knocked on in midfield for Jade Arber to race clear of the defence and slot it past the stranded goalkeeper.

Within two minutes Chasetown were in front. Nicci Barter broke up a Five Towns attack and hit a long ball for Sinead Treanor to collect and pass into the corner of the net.

The Scholars built on a frantic opening five minutes, with the midfield area being controlled by Lyndsey Turner and Jodie Kinsey, with Jade Arber, Sarah Thompson and Abi Picken supporting.

Neat work from Turner and Arber enabled Treanor to put Chasetown into the comfort zone at 3-1.

Treanor’s hat-trick goal had many people wondering what had happened. She took on a couple of players and crashed the ball from an impossible angle into the net – despite most of the crowd thinking she had hit the side netting.

Five Towns were certainly not finished and won themselves a corner. The delivery caused confusion in Chasetown’s six yard box, but Sarah Thompson managed to clear the ball over the bar to safety.

The Scholars’ next goal was Turner head a Five Towns clearance to Arber, who broke the tackle and sped away down the left. A good cross into the box was controlled on her chest by Treanor before calmly slotting home.

A change of goalkeeper for Five Towns failed to halt the Chasetown advance as a long through ball from Charlotte Bull should have been collected, but Arber nipped in and tapped the ball into an empty net for a 6-1 half-time lead.

Five Towns improved their game in the second half as the Scholars fell off the pace. Their defence played a great deal better and the keeper pulled off some saves.

And they got their reward with a second goal to make the final score 6-2.

Chasetown’s player of the match was Sinead Treanor.
