Tributes have been paid to one of the founder members of Chasetown FC following his death.

Keith Birch – who still holds a club record after scoring 11 goals in 21-1 win against Lichfield Laundry during the 1960s – died on December 4 following a long illness.

The right winger began his career with Chase Terrace Old Scholars, the club which later went on to become Chasetown FC, in 1954 before going on to ply his trade with Hednesford Town and Birmingham City FC.

As well as being an accomplished footballer, Keith also played cricket and table tennis.

A spokesperson for the club said in a tribute to their former player published on the Chasetown FC website:

“Everyone at Chasetown Football Club extends their condolences to Keith’s wife Liz and all of his family and friends.”
