A man has been cut free from his car after it careered off the carriageway of the M6 Toll near Lichfield.

The incident happened on the M6 Toll Road, Northbound between Langley Mill and Weeford, at 8.45am this morning (December 21).

Firefighters from from Tamworth, Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield were called to the accident.

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said:

“The car had left the roadway, gone through a wooden fence and had landed in the field below. When firefighters arrived the car was overturned and so they cut off the driver side of the vehicle in order to access the male casualty.”

The 68-year-old driver was taken to Selly Oak Hospital by air ambulance suffering from head injuries.
