Lichfield City travel to Newcastle Town this weekend in the Quarter Finals of the Staffordshire FA Challenge Cup.

It will be a tough test for Dean Gilbert’s men. Newcastle are flying high in the Vodkat League Premier Division having won all 23 of their league fixtures to date.

After seeing their last two games postponed due to the inclement weather, Gilbert is hoping that Saturday’s fixture will go ahead as planned.

The Lichfield boss explained:

“It’s been frustrating. We haven’t played since we beat Chelmsley Town 7-3 on the December 12. We’re hoping that Saturday’s game goes ahead and, if it does, it will be a good test for our lads. Newcastle are doing really well. They have a perfect record, so we’ll have to be at our best.

“They play at a decent level and they have a good stadium, so it’s a game we’re all looking forward to.”

The tie takes place at Town’s Lyme Valley Stadium (kick-off 1.30pm).

Lichfield City are still on the look out for a first-team coach and reserve team manager. Anyone interested should contact first-team manager, Dean Gilbert, on 07983 394 090
