Dean Gilbert has called on his Lichfield City FC troops to have the “game of their lives” this weekend if they are to reach the final of the Staffordshire FA Challenge Cup.

City entertain Stone Old Alleynians in the semi final on Saturday and, although Gilbert admits to knowing little about the opponents, he is determined to see his side reach the final.

The City boss said:

“This is a massive game for us. It’s a home tie with a final at stake and every player needs to turn up and have the game of their life otherwise there in danger of letting a final slip out of their hands.

“There’s nothing worse than losing a semi final and I know my lads will not want that to happen especially on home turf.”

Gilbert is hoping that home advantage will prove key and has called on the people of Lichfield to turn up en masse and roar his side to victory.

He added:

“We want as many people as possible to come to Brownsfield Park and cheer on the lads. They deserve a lot of credit fir getting this far and it would be nice to think that there will be a bumper crowd on Saturday. Stone are a side we know nothing about but, like ourselves, they have beaten good sides in the competition and have earned the right to compete in the semi-final.

“We have the advantage of a home tie and need the people of the City to come and give us their backing.”
