It was the second time these two sides had met in three weeks and saw some excellent football from both teams as they aimed to continue their push for the title.

The opening exchanges were all going Chasetown’s way and it only took five minute for them to take the lead. The Scholars had caused chaos in the Bradwell defence with two well taken corners by Jodie Kinsey. The second corner was only partially cleared and when the ball was put back in Sarah Thompson found herself in a good position to tuck the ball home.

Chasetown increased their lead through Sinead Treanor in the 20th minute but this goal was rather controversial as Bradwell felt the goal should have been ruled offside.

The second goal spurred Bradwell on and they suddenly upped the pace and dominated the next 30 minutes. They pulled a goal back with a good 20-yard strike from Tash Harper, who then turned provider for Natasha Catalano to level the match at 2-2.

The second half was much more in Chasetown’s favour and Jade Arber scored two crucial goals within 10 minutes of the restart. The first was another in-swinging Jodie Kinsey corner where Jade Arber nipped in-front of the keeper to head in and the second was a left footed volley from close range. The second goal was set up by Abi Picken who bravely headed the ball through after Bradwell failed to clear the ball.

Abbie Somerville in the Bradwell goal was having a tremendous match as she pulled off three or four excellent saves before keeping out a well-struck penalty.

Chasetown were awarded a second penalty for hand ball in the 70th minute. This time Jodie Kinsey struck the ball firmly into the net to ease out to a comfortable 5-2 lead.

Not to be outdone, Chasetown keeper Becky Troth pulled off a double save in the dying moments to protect the lead and secure a precious three points.

Chasetown’s player of the match award went to Natasha Whitehouse.
