Lichfield Diamonds once again failed to find top gear in the first half of a game as their passing let them down. But despite their problems, Lichfield still created enough chances to be comfortably in front. In the opening minutes Connie Shutt flicked an Alison Livermore corner goalwards, only for the keeper to tip it over. Minutes later Diamonds’ pressure bought a succession of corners which eventually saw Holly Jackson hit the bar. A careless pass across her own box by right back Jackson then gifted Erdington the lead as with one touch the ball was swept past the keeper into the corner of the net. The visitors then missed two good chances when Shannon B-Jones and Jess Adams were clear in front of goa, but both hit shots tamely at the keeper with the goal at their mercy. And Diamonds looked like they would rue those misses as poor defending saw Erdington double their lead. But Adams made amends for the earlier miss when she darted on to an angled pass from Livermore before calmly stroking the ball past the oncoming keeper to halve the deficit just before half time. As the second half progressed Diamonds began to take control. Jackson moved into centre midfield and Lichfield began to dominate. The pressure brought a series of corners with Shutt forcing the ball in at the back post. With their tails up the city side drove forward with Livermore taking full advantage of the home side’s unease at the back to fire home from close range. Then, with five minutes remaining, Livermore sealed the win by scoring direct from a corner.
