Members of the Lichfield Garrick Youth Theatre past and present are taking to the stage in aid of St Giles Hospice.

As well as marking the group’s 25th anniversary year, the production of Songs for a New World will also be the first time a full-scale musical has been produced specifically for the Garrick Studio Theatre.

Dan Breakwell and Lily Somerville – stars of the Youth Theatre’s recent production of Rent – will be joined by current Chairman and resident Musical Director Oliver Rowe, and past member and professionally trained singer and actress Aimee Berwick who both appeared with the Youth Theatre together in West Side Story in 1999.

Oliver explained how the event had come about:

“We wanted to do something for an excellent local cause, so all of the money raised from this full week run will go to St Giles Hospice as part of our 25th Anniversary Celebrations.”

During their 25 years, the Youth Theatre have performed the likes of Fame, Les Miserables and Jesus Christ Superstar.

And the forthcoming production of Songs for a New World will see them add to their proud heritage.

The show runs from March 9 to 13 at the Lichfield Garrick Studio Theatre. Tickets are available from Garrick box office on 01543 412 121 or online at www.lichfieldgarrick.com.
