Lichfield District Council has been accused of causing confusion over potential new housing developments.

The criticism comes from Lichfield District Residents’ Alliance after the council began a consultation via a Call for Sites programme while residents are still awaiting the outcome of the Secretary of State’s decision on the West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy.

David Woods, chairman of the Alliance, explained:

“The timing of the Council’s consultation on site availability is crass. The consultation will clash with the vitally important consultation period concerning the Secretary of State’s document. This will present a confusing picture to residents who have already expressed their opposition to the level and location of development proposed by the Council.

“We know that the Call for Sites is an essential component of the Council’s development planning process, but does it really have to be staged over the same period? If Lichfield District Council wish to cause confusion amongst residents they couldn’t go about it in a better way!”
