Thirty volunteers have been learned all about the traditional skill of creating hedges in Lichfield.

Lichfield District Council’s Countryside team, North Lichfield Initiative, and Burton Conservation Volunteers led the event at Christian Fields, which also included clearing scrub to keep the former landfill site under control.

Cllr Mike Fryers, Lichfield District councillor and Chairperson of North Lichfield Initiative’s Transport and Environment Group, said:

“The sun shone on us, and it was another wonderful day in the great outdoors. Everyone brought their energy and enthusiasm to the event. It was fascinating to learn the traditional skill of laying hedges, and they will make a huge difference to the site.”

Excitement is mounting as Christian Fields will be declared the district’s first Local Nature Reserve this April.
