Lichfield City FC bowed out of the Jack Mould Trophy last night following a 6-0 hammering at the hands of Kenilworth Town KH.

Dean Gilbert’s men, who ironically beat Kenilworth by the same scoreline in league action earlier this year, bowed out of the competition at the quarter final stage.

The result was a bitter blow for the City boss. He said:

“We were battered – there can be no excuses. We were outplayed and outfought. It was real men against boys stuff. Too many of our players didn’t want it enough and we got found out.”

Gilbert will be looking for an immediate reaction from his troops when they travel to Perrywood on Saturday (March 6) in the Midland Combination Second Division (kick-off 3.00pm).

The Lichfield boss added:

“We need to put this game to bed now. We were poor but at least we only have to wait a few days to put things right. Our league form has been good of late, hopefully that will continue this weekend.”
