A Burntwood pub has moved a step closer to being turned into housing.

An amended application has been submitted to Lichfield District Council to demolish The Triangle Tavern on Hospital Road and replace it with six four-bedroom houses.

Documents accompanying the plans claim that the demise of the pub should not be a stumbling block to the development. The application states:

“The loss of the public house would not be detrimental to the community since the locality would continue to be served by other public houses.”

The Triangle Tavern is not the first Burntwood pub to be earmarked for housing in recent times. The Travellers Rest has already bitten the dust, while an application was made to convert The Centurion on Chase Road into three houses and four apartments last year.

But planning chiefs rejected that scheme claiming that the homes would represent a “cramped form of development” and would “fail to respect the existing character and appearance of the area”.

Residents can find out more about the plans for The Triangle Tavern on Lichfield District Council’s planning website.

I wonder if they know that a whole load of drains and sewers go right under the car park there. Might be right fun to dig all that lot up!

To be honest, I’ll miss the balti more than the pub. :(
