Lichfield residents are being given the chance to qualify as a swimming pool lifeguard.

Friary Grange Leisure Centre is hosting the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification course from April 6 to 10.

The week-long course includes daily training sessions in the pool and some classroom-based theory work and will culminate in an exam on April 11. Anyone wanting to take part needs to be over 16 and able to swim at least 100m non-stop.

Councillor Val Richards, Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said:

“This is a great opportunity for people looking to change jobs or for young people looking to get into work, to gain a recognised qualification. Life guarding is an important job, and the leisure centres are always on the look out for more young people qualifying to help them keep an eye on swimmers at Friary Grange or Burntwood Leisure Centre. As well as being informative, the course is fun and a great way to meet new people.”

The week-long course costs £200. To find out more or to book your place please contact Friary Grange Leisure Centre on 01543 308842.
